Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have a question that isn’t answered here? Contact us!
Do you train aggressive dogs?
We work with all forms of aggression towards dogs and most forms of aggression towards humans.
Dogs posing a bite risk to humans are evaluated on a case by case basis and must be crate and muzzle trained prior to drop off.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes! After your dog returns home, you can call on us for help as many or as few times as you want for the rest of your dog’s life at no charge. We are extremely confident in our training system and are proud to offer a lifetime service guarantee.
Which training program is right for my dog?
We offer several program lengths based upon your dog’s age, size, and temperament. Here are some quick guidelines on which kind of dog fits into which program:
- Dogs over 5 months without anxiety or aggression issues qualify for On-Leash Obedience or Lifetime Obedience
- Dogs with moderate behavioral issues qualify for Lifetime Obedience
- Dogs with serious behavioral issues qualify for Behavior Modification
What commands do you teach?
All commands come standard with our Lifetime training programs:
- Sit
- Down
- Heel (Walk by your side)
- Bed (Place)
- Stay/Wait
- Crate
- Come when called
We also teach “no”, which tells your dog to stop whatever they’re currently engaged in (jumping, barking, digging, chewing, etc). If there is a specific command not on the list that you are interested in, just ask!
What about puppies and potty training?
We begin taking dogs for our board and train programs at 5-6 months old. Potty training and puppy training is best handled at home, but you can contact us for our free puppy guide!
How are payments split up?
We split the training into 3 payments. A $500 refundable deposit will secure your spot. The remaining balance will be due half at drop off and half at graduation. For example:
$4,000 Lifetime Obedience Program:
- $500 deposit
- $1750 at drop off
- $1750 at graduation
Do you board dogs without training?
We only board dogs that have already come through a training program. This ensures that all dogs staying here for boarding or training are safe and interacting appropriately with each other. Exceptions are made for housemates (ie. one dog comes for training and another for boarding).
My dog has anxiety, how will they do in a boarding environment?
Spending time apart can be difficult for both owners and dogs. This is why we devote the early stages of the training to building a bond and making sure dogs feel comfortable with our trainers, especially anxious dogs. We send picture, video, and text updates on a regular basis to make sure you’re informed throughout the training process and you can always check in with us and see how they’re doing!
Will the training stick at home?
Dogs understand consistency, so it's important to be consistent in the reinforcement of the training. Your dog will learn to break boundaries if they are not enforced. That being said,it is impossible for your dog to forget what he or she learns here. From a dog’s perspective, this is a skill like speaking a language or riding a bike, and a follow-up session is usually sufficient to get them back on track.
What is an e-collar and what is it used for?
The e-collar is a remote controlled collar that is used as a communication tool. It works by stimulating the muscle like a TENS unit, it is not an electric shock.
Our top priority with the e-collar is its proper introduction. Your dog will know what the e-collar means and how to respond to it.
The e-collar is necessary for reliability. If your dog runs into traffic, you do not want to rely on the hope that a treat will convince them to come back. It is essential that your dog understands they must come back every time in order for you to trust your dog and his/her training. The e-collar eliminates confusion and inconsistency and is an integral part of our Lifetime Obedience and Behavior Modification programs both during training and at home.
We do offer a training program without an e-collar, On-Leash Obedience, but not all dogs are suitable for this program. Contact us for more information.
Do you offer private lessons?
No. We exclusively offer board and train programs. All of our training programs come with free private lessons for life, but completing a board and train program first is required.
I am elderly or disabled and have trouble controlling my dog. Will this training work for me?
Our goal is to give you control that does not rely on strength or physical ability. We have worked with dogs and owners of varying levels of ability and are committed to making training as easy to implement as possible for everyone.
How will I know how to apply the training once my dog comes home?
At the end of the board and train we will meet up for a 1hr graduation session. Here we can go over the application of the training and discuss plans to address your dog’s unique challenges. Once you return home, you will have access to lifetime phone/text support with us to assist you after training, as well as unlimited 1:1 follow-up sessions to get you back on track if any issues come up.
Where will my dog stay during the training?
Your dog will stay at our facility, either in the house or the kennel building. For safety reasons all dogs will be crated overnight and when unsupervised.
